Migration checklist · Etsy → Shopify

Transfer Etsy to Shopify

There's no "move my shop" button — a transfer is really four or five separate jobs, and only some of your shop can come along. Here's the honest checklist, plus a free converter for the biggest job: your listings.

What transfers — and what doesn't

Part of your shopMoves?How
Listings (titles, descriptions, tags, quantities)YesEtsy's listings CSV export → converted to Shopify's import format (the tool below does this)
Listing photosYesImage URLs ride along in the converted file; Shopify fetches each image automatically during import
Variations (Size, Color…)Yes*The structure converts cleanly — but Etsy's export omits per-variant prices, so those get entered once in the converter's bulk grid. Why this gap exists →
Order historyNoShopify's product import can't take orders. Download Etsy's orders CSV for your own records before you wind down.
Customer listNoBuyer contact details belong to Etsy under its policy — there's no marketable email list to take with you. Your new list starts on Shopify.
ReviewsNoEtsy has no official review export. Some Shopify review apps offer Etsy importers — check the current app store before counting on it.

The takeaway: your listings are the only part that truly migrates — which is why getting the CSV step right matters more than anything else in the move.

The five steps of the move

  1. Open your Shopify store

Start the trial, set your store currency and shipping basics. Don't build the theme out yet — products first.

  2. Export your Etsy listings

Shop Manager → Settings → Options → Download Data → “Currently for Sale Listings.” You get one CSV with everything Etsy will give you.

  3. Convert it below

The converter expands your variations into Shopify's format and gives you a bulk grid to set per-variant prices — the one thing Etsy's file leaves out.

  4. Import to Shopify

Shopify admin → Products → Import. Variants, prices, quantities, tags, and images come through. Spot-check a few multi-variant products.

  5. Decide what happens to your Etsy shop

Many sellers run both for months — that's allowed and common. If you're leaving, update your shop announcement so regulars know where to find you; Etsy doesn't do redirects.

Questions sellers ask mid-move

Do I have to close my Etsy shop when I open a Shopify store?

No. Nothing in either platform's rules forces a choice, and running both while Shopify traffic ramps up is the most common path. The export/convert/import above doesn't touch your live Etsy shop at all — it only reads a downloaded file.

How long does the products part actually take?

The export takes a minute, the conversion seconds. The honest time cost is per-variant prices: Etsy's file doesn't include them, so budget a few minutes in the bulk grid (versus days doing the same edits one-by-one inside Shopify admin after a raw import).

What does this converter cost?

Your first 25 listings convert completely free — variants, images, grid and all, no signup. Bigger shops: a $29 one-time full export. Full tool page and FAQ →
